Gerrit van der Meer is one half of the successful chillout project ORBIENT. With their Album "Music for the ISS" the duo caused sensation at the millennium and afterwards their careers raised up highly by taking part at the Café Abstrait Tour in 2002. They reached the state of cult in their genre and won the "Goldene Stimmgabel" award for the category "Downbeat" in Germany. Meanwhile you can listen to songs of them on countless compilations. Since the release of their second album „Re-Entry" it took over three years to complete the new CD "Umbient". Gerrit van der Meer created a mixture of chillout, downbeat, filmscore and "pseudo-house" and guarantees absolute excitement for the whole length of the CD. Gerrit himself describes his album as a medley for the balcony in the late afternoon including wine for two or the car journey to the Cote d'Azur in a threesome or for the bathtub simpy alone – everything is possible. The CD is nearly perfect for driving on the highway or as companion for space tourists. Gerrit van der Meer completely produced this album alone in the studio. He composed and arranged every song on his own. To release his album he considered 2008 as the ideal year – the beginning of the "Aquarius" age. Biography Gerrit started doing music by playing the drums at the age of 8. At the age of 10 his father taught him to play the guitar. Then participations in first jazz-rock and rock-pop bands followed. In 1994 he improved his ability by absolving a special sort of studies for popular music for drummers at the Academy for Music and Theatre run by Prof. Dr. Udo Dahmen. From 1996 on he chose to be educated at the School for Stage Singing (Hamburg) under direction of Johannes Schaefer. Beneath Gerrit is also Reiki teacher and Natural Healing Student of Dr. Jes T. Lim / Qi Mag Medicine Alternativa (Alma Ata). His profession is the feelings and the optics in music. He is searching for the love that keeps us awake and investigates memories of light and Albert Einstein's advancement of his formula E=m x c 2. He also has a restrained affinity to megalomania and irony and furthermore practices in boosting his own ego. Gerrit now created his own creative work under influences by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Thomas Dolby & Pet Shop Boys.
