DESCRIPTION:
Could Spinner be Days Of Being Wild first ever French Touch 12"?Well not quite…Although all producers involved here are french, this release rather showshow far away the French are from the famous "touch" that made them sopopular more than 10 years ago!Franz Kirmann (a french man hiding behind a German name…) has got us usedto rather dreamy, downtempo cinematic music through his string of soloreleases over the past two years as well as with his work with pianist *TomHodge* as Piano Interrupted, but equally Kirmann has made no secret of hispassion for dance music. He gave us a glimpse of that on his previous cut for Wild by reworking hisown track Liza into a shoegaze dancefloor epic as well as Catalepsia's "I'msick of that shit".So here comes Spinner built around a glitchy riff and a solid, organicgroove but still boasting Kirmann's beloved sonics: twinkly sequences arestill there lurking around the corner and slowly building towards a hugedrop out of fuzzy wall of pads and shimmering electronics. The remixes come from 3 producers of completely different background.Karat Records's Dolibox, seem the perfect choice to remix Kirmann as hissound is quite cinematic and dreamy too. Dolibox makes romantic house musicthat flirts with minimalism without completely falling into the genre.Leaving Spinner main riff behind, Dollibox smoothes the angles and producesa superbly deep remix, built around lush housy pads.Warm, sexy and with a very loooong breakdown, Dolibox's mix is a strikingpiece of chilled house music. On the B- side of the 12" things get darker.First we find french vampire Remain, co-owner of Meant Records with Siskid(of Blackstrobe fame)Remain is a producer that doesn't like it sweet and nice or with too much"frou frou" like the french would say… his remix is an evil, dark, andsuper efficient dance machine. Think Rebotini and the early Blackstrobe's12" on Output recordings.Of Spinner only the bare harmonies remain… everything else has beenreplaced by old bleepy synths and electro bass lines colliding into snappydelays.Lastly we find Days Of Being Wild's very own Catalepsia - a man who alsolikes it raw…His take on Spinner keeps a lot of the original's sounds and elements butthe groove has been reworked towards a much more Chicago type of sound andvibe. Add to the mix a strong repetitive techno bass line and robotic hihats, and Spinner suddenly sounds like it was actually produced somewherenorth of the United States in the early 90's.On the digital release we have another remix by Arrowstothesky (who happensto be the exception to the French rule prevailing here…)An english producer based in London arrowstothesky is the man behind newcollective Oonst running events at XOYO in London. His remix has all the ingredients that we grew to love in today UK's dancescene. It's centred around Spinner's wall of pads that it uses as its mainriff, providing quite an epic and dreamy background to a much more"street", gritty grinding bass and shuffle beat.Sound cuts (done with volume fader) reignite the tracks at key momentscreating a real club vibe, but with that slight nostalgic tone that you canfind in the best dance music from New Order to The Field.daysofbeingwildcorp@gmail.com
