DESCRIPTION:
Days Of Being Wild brings you Catalepsia's Dope Menace with remixes by Sean 'Hardway Bros' Johnston & Don Froth. This is a special release to us at Days Of Being Wild, firstly because it's the return of Catalepsia and he's in a mighty form, secondly because we felt very privileged to have artists of the calibre of Sean and Don getting involved and lastly the quality of the remixes they delivered left us speechless! So Dope Menace is an energetic dance floor stomper, centred around a very heavy beat and is indeed quite a menacing affair. Built around a hellish, relentless string riff, the track is a dramatic, cinematic, dark mid tempo house number that could induces as much fancy foot work as it would head banging.Jerome Bazzanella, the man behind Catalepsia has been releasing techno / house records for the last 3 years on various labels and compilations (Synewave, Remute, Métis Recordings, Nice & Nasty...).He likes to keep the tempo roughly between 110/120 BPM, favouring a heavy, efficient sound, with subtle sound effects and movements, in the tradition of the records from Chicago and Detroit.London producer Sean Johnston of Hardway Bros' fame has found time in his busy schedule (he currently host A Love From Outer Space with Andrew Weatherall at The Drop, as well as working on new Hardway Bros productions) to deliver a funked up remix of Dope Menace. The main string riff is played by a bleepy bass synth and the groove recalls the early days of house music. The addition of an old school snare fill reminds us of Sean's acid house veteran status. Lovers of Hardway Bros' night time techno, sleazy disco and dirty bass sounds won't be disappointed as his take on Dope Menace picks us up where his 2010 12" Cruiser / Relaxer left us, on the side of the road after a shady boozy late at night in Dalston, East London. Relentless stuff.Second remix comes from San Francisco best known undercover bedroom producer Don Froth. The last 12 months have been pretty exciting for Don. After the success of his incredible Foam EP, 2010 saw him releasing 10,000CC on the demanding Phonica white label. Since then he's been gaining support from numerous heavy weight DJ's, including Giles Peterson, Richard Senn, Mr.C or Tim Sweeney.Being the Californian surfer that he is, Don manages to keep his cool with the darkness of Dope Menace and delivers an incredible mix, in which he injects minimal hooks, funk breaks and 80's synths chords.
