Nils Ohrmann - Biography

Nils Ohrmann

To be truthful, musical conditions weren’t so good for the small organist Nils Ohrmann. He grew up in the province of Lower Saxony and was indoctrinated as a child by Ilja Richter’s "Disco" show and diverse top 40 hits. He could have been easily become a passable "Disco Stu", with a weakness for hot super-hits and shiny clothes. The fall of the wall was in full swing when the then-punk found his way out of the tight jeans phase with crossover bands and also started a musical partnership with Erich Lesovsky. The first visits to the rising East/Kassel and other countryside towns with Techno and House clubs began to show their effect in about 1994. For even in that year, him and Erich started tinkering with electronic tracks. The first attempts at making tracks came soon after, at a time when record stores were strictly house-music oriented…but they chose the more experimental realms of sound. In 1996 Nils made the inevitable move to Berlin to study Sociology. The Berlin influence also influenced his sound, which was now moving deeper into the realm of techno. As his turntables turned to techno, the disco-star dream became more remote. Ciao, Studio 54! Hello Schnabelbar/Xberg, where he bravely played an 8 year residence. Although his sound was already a big too playful for the "Crass Berliner", he didn’t have to wait long for bookings in larger places, like Casino, Tresor, and Maria. 2004 began with his own events and his second residency in Friedrichshain’s Rosi’s. With his good friend, Musikant Klick, they had a breakthrough in 2007 as organizers of the Berlin party scene. The "unsereKleinewelt" parties at Rosi’s became fuller and more euphoric, and they also guaranteed other parties in a number of great clubs in Berlin, Hamburg, and Cologne. Thanks to countless guest musicians, like a child, Nils was able to suck so much inspiration from them that a further release on HIS terms was inevitable. The result? The 2009 track "Le Funk Fatale" (HULA HOOP001-CHAISELON EP), made together with the Nena-ish background singer Sandy Köckeritz. Its lavicious, sweaty summer atmosphere quickly made it a small club-hit. In any case, the next tracks from the House of Ohrmann are bound to be a pleasant surprise…
