Alex Niggemann - Biography
Alex Niggemann was born in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1984. He noticed very early on that playing the piano (which he had done passionately for many years) was not the route he would take to make it in the music biz. Since he was a teenager, he was looking for new ways to express himself through music. Initially influenced by his brother´s taste he visited his first techno party, life has never been the same since. At the tender age of 16 he knew which direction his future would take. He acquired his first turntables and mixer then converted his room into a provisional DJ studio. Very soon he started down the path of electronic music production. While this transformation was taking place he DJ'd under different aliases in several clubs in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. After his high-school graduation in 2005 he moved to Berlin to study audio engineering and refine his knowledge in music production. After some successful networking further DJ appearances in clubs all over Germany followed, this time under his real name Alex Niggemann. Soon, his first commercial release, a remix of Booka Shade's awesome 'Darko' (Get Physical Music 2006) was subsequently released to great acclaim. After completion of his studies in 2007 he concentrated on his music full time. In 2008, he had releases on labels such as Meerestief, Micro.fon and Moonpool, to name just a few. From then on things snowballed, Audiofly signed him to Supernature, Nick Curly & Gorge snapped him up for releases on their label 8bit, Jimpster wants him for Freerange Records and also Ralph Lawson from 2020 Vision wants a piece of his rather fine pie for 2010. After having several topsellers and gigs all over the globe, Alex Niggemann was in Top 10 of Resident Advisor’s "Top 20 Charted Artists 2009", leaving DJs such as Joris Voorn, Ben Klock and Johnny D a.m.m. in the ranking behind him. In 2010 releases on Supernature, 8bit, 2020Vision and on his own, just found, Label Soulfooled will follow. In January, also his "Play House EP" will be published on dutch BLABLA Records.
